Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born on the 20th of October 1964, she was the 49th Vice President of the United States. She is also the first female vice-president and the highest ranking female official in the United American. Harris is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. Additionally, she served as the United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected district attorney for San Francisco. She was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010 and was reelected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the 2nd African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As senator, Harris fought for healthcare, federal de-scheduling and legalization of cannabis as a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. She earned national attention due to her sharp examination of Trump administration officials in Senate hearings, including Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual assault.
